Having narrowed down my choice in motors, my option is a 2001 Johnson or 2002 Mercury. The price differences with going new are not worth it since the 16' jon boat will be used farely infrequently in coastal creeks and some fresh water use. Have heard great things about Johnson/Suzuki, but nothing good or bad on Mercury. Mercury has been around a long time as far as I know, but would like to see some opinions. I do want EFI, which leans me to the Mercury since the Johnson is not. Thanks.

If the price is close and the moter checks out, I would chose an EFI over a carbed model any day.

For your situation, I think I'd go with the Merc.

Although I tend towards Merc, I have and will continue to own either and both. To me the only significant difference in your case is the EFI, and I'd recommend you base your decision on that, price not being a factor.
