I have a 1987 85Hp.Force, my question is, is the sender a on/off type, or is it a variable voltage sender that will work with a dash mounted gauge, the sender that is on the motor, is a reddish-orange plug held in with a snap ring, the manual that I have just gave test instructions to check if it was working. If not a variable output sender, any suggestions on one that will work?

Re: Force Temp Sender

What you're seeing is the overheat sensor. It's off when it's cool, on when it's hot. It completes the ground path to the hot horn when it gets hot.

Gauge senders are fairly universal as a sensor, but there are a wide variety of configurations for mounting. Most common are the 1/8" pipe threaded variety which would screw into a fitting somewhere near the cylinder head. Others have a bracket that is held in place with a head bolt, the sender sits against the outside of the motor.
