I made a flusher for my motor. I bought a piece of 3/4 by 1/8 aluminum flat bar from home depot. As well as a hose barb with a 3/8 id outlet. I drilled and counter sunk the two screw holes and drilled a hole for the hose barb. I then opened up one side of a pair of muffs to hold it in place. The 3/4 bar fit in nicely and I just had to round off the corners. The hose barb is a little long and bottoms out. But it started raining,I cut it off but have not yet tested it with the shorter hose barb. Because it was too long there was some back spray. But even with muffs there is not a perfect seal. For those reading this that do not already know this is not the way to test a water pump. I will use it for winterizing and when not testing the water pump.

Do you put a piece of duct tape over the water inlet above and behind the prop?

No and I know water escapes through the main water pickup. But I am sure that enough water goes up through the pump. But covering the inlet would probably help. My motor has no thermostat and I ran it for 10 mins and it never went above 130 degrees.

Your OB needs something like this...

Buy a standard and cheap ear muff unit and modify it like lower pics..

With well adjusted belt or rope piece achieves minimum water loss outting around ears and OB peeing happily as a teenager...
