I have a 2003 Mercury 40 hp. 2 stroke and would like to have a shop tach. for tune up's and to check the accuracy of my boat tach. Can someone recommend an inexpensive ( I live in the deep country so shop a lot on Amazon) type of tach. and how to hook it up.

Thanks.

Welcome to Iboats,

Buy an induction hour/tach Hardline model [FONT=&quot]HR-8061-2, follow easy installation procedures. Check Iboats, Amazon for them.

If you re looking for a really cheap and simple hookup tach just to use to verify another tach, look at Tiny Tach. It uses one wire wrapped around any one spark plug wire and that is it. And it reads out digitally. JMHO

TT is way more expensive than Hardline. Down issue with TT is that if you need to constantly wrap, unwrap pickup cable from spark plug cable will end breaking the red pick up cable that joins with the ground cable. Both brands are digital tachs not just TT...

I've looked at both and found the Hardline for $25 on Amazon, so it's been ordered. Thanks for the help.
