Did the '62 -'64 28 hp Evinrudes come as 'Tiller' steer versions? Plenty of tiller handles on Ebay but can't locate one for the '63 I have. Will other model years work?
Mine only has the stubby "Fast" "Start" "Slow" lever.

Any of the "big twin" tiller handles will work, from about 1955 on up to about the late 1970s (25-40hp). Tillers will have only one mounting bolt. Smaller motor tiller handles will have two mounting nubs and will not work. Make sure you get the throttle shaft & gear that goes on the motor side, too, as well as the mounting bolt, which is a special shoulder bolt with a large cupped star washer.

Ok, Thanks, that will help narrow my search. Just wasn't sure what I was looking for.

Maybe. But it has everything you need. You might find a tiller handle cheaper, but then you'll need the throttle shaft, then the bolt, etc. That kit has the whole shebang...

Never thought to look at my parts book ! Sure enough same kit part number is listed for my '63 so I 'bit the bullet' and it's on its way!
