Mercury Serial No/Date of Mfg.

My Mercury 7.5 hp O/B serial number is 7106851. What is the year of manufacture? This S/N is way higher than the starting S/N for 1985, 6611886, (last year of mfg,) so is it a 1985? There is no year marked on the tag. Made in Canada.

Do you have a model number? If so that will tell you the year.

Ooops! I have two motors I'm working on. The one I'm asking about is the Mercury (not Evinrude). There is no model number on the nameplate.
