Our 26 foot 1979 SeaRay Sundancer is propelled by a single screw 260 MerCruiser I/O.
To safely fish Isle Royale (Lake Superior) this boat needs a kicker (get back) motor.
Hoping to hear some advice from anybody who's successfully added a motor/bracket/control system to a boat of this size and weight.

For a boat that size and on water like that, you'll need something in the 20+HP (high thrust model) range to really make it move in bad weather. If you were on different waters you could get by with a smaller motor.

26' footers here use 9.9 and 15HP kickers for fishing, but if your goal is to get you back in nasty weather the larger motor will work better

Going out in Lake Superior to Isle Royal, i would want twins. However as ondarvr stated, a good bracket and a 20hp

Lake Superior doesnt give up its dead

Have EPIRBs, a dinghy and a good radio

A good solid mount and a 15hp properly propped will do the trick.
