gear case pressure testing

Outboard gearcase pressure testers are just too expensive for use once or twice.
However, Mighty Vac makes a handheld automotive cooling system pressure tester
that can be purchased for around $50 or less. Seems like with an adapter that fits into the gear case, this tester would be an economical way to pressure test gear cases.
Your opinions and input ?
Thanks

Seems that with an adapter, this would be an inexpensive alternative to pressure testing.

It doesn't matter what you use to pressurize it as long as it has a gauge and you can make it fit.

Most any home made testers will work, as long as they hold pressure. What you are looking at should be fine. Look up home made testers and you will see a lot of variations from bike pumps and such.

You need to pressure and vac test. A unit can pass a pressure test and fail a vac test.

My buddy made one out of an old coolant pressure tester and it works great. However if you also want to check vacuum im sure you could get a cheap vacuum pump from harbor freight. And use the threaded gear lube adapter for both. Or mityvac makes a pressure &vac pump in one for 100$

look at the mity vac 8500 (you can find it on amazon for about $60) first, its their silver line (metal) pump, second it does both pressure and vacuum and has the accessories for not only pressure testing your drive, however coolant systems, brake system, etc. and it comes in a case
