I just bought this boat its a 14' blue star and has a mercury 200 20hp on it. My question is should this motor be able to get this up to plane with 2 adults and 2 kids weighing total of 600lbs. It has a wake with it but i feel it should be faster then it is.

possibly, however that is a bit of weight for such a small motor. what RPM is your motor at when trying to get out of the hole?

my 14' tinny can plane with my 12hp gale with just me in it. add any weight and she cant get out of the hole. however a 20hp merc was good for 3 adults

No idea on rpm but i dont think motors going in high rpms either or maybe i have to adjust tilt on motor. I would assume itd be able to go on plane. Im new to boats as well

Need an induction tach to check max rpm the OB is delivering when trying to plane. All OB's have factory wot (wide open throttle) min-max range specs for OB to work safely. From there cam maximize a better prop to make it plane, if being a heavy combo, will achieve a better fast displacement speed while at load..

The other thing i thought of yesterday is that i put an automotive style fuel filt on it right next to tank could it be to restrictive for fuel to get thru

When my 2 kids were teenagers we had a similar boat and it would plane with the 4 of us with only a 9.5. When I put an 18 on her it was literally too fast for conditions in the river with all 4 aboard.

The carpet is dry and ill like it when warms up so can go swimming and not have to worry bout slipping on aluminum.

Better install a fuel water separator system suited for OB's, many to choose from. OB's usually have a small filter inside tank's fuel pick up and a larger one after internal fuel pump. No need for any other extra..
