40hp mercury to 55hp evenrude swap

how difficult is it to swap a 1981 40 hp mercury to a 55hp evenrude (1983) on a 1981basstracker 3.... any help appreciated

Provided that the hull is rated for the 55, it is not difficult at all IF you have the OMC controls and wiring.

you have helped me in the past and thank you but what is omc..my wiring is all good and the hull is rated for 60hp

OMC was the parent company for Johnson and Evinrude. Under the Bombardier umbrella now.

Since you currently have a Mercury motor, I don't think you've got Evinrude wiring and cables. So the new motor's wires and remote won't be plug and play like it would if you were pulling an Evinrude/Johnson.

Where are you getting the 55hp? Get the wiring, cables and remote that go w/ the Evinrude.
