I've seen them. Volvo made the Aq170 all through the 70's. They are pretty common still on northern lake states with short seasons. They are not that rare, Volvo made millions of them.

good to know, need to share with my inline brethren on the old-truck sites. cool multi-carb setup - look for old AQ170's

Or AQ165's.... Depending on which carbs you want. The 165's had Stromberg carbs... The 170's had the Solex carbs.

You are thinking about a different engine, Volvo's own B30, I have one of those. Note that the intake and exhaust is on the other side.

I saw straight 6 and immediately thought of the old aq170s. I didn't even read where you said they were 165's, and now that I look again, I should have known better. I'm pretty sure somebody cobbled those together. Volvo didn't start using GM blocks until about the late 80's, and by that time, the straight 6 was long gone. The very last of the I6's from Merc was in 80/81.....

On your first set of pictures. The one on the right. That has what looks to e a Volvo number on the valve cover. Whats that number say?

What is interesting is that those are 3 different pictures of 3 different setups. Maybe something that was not offered in the US. Last actual Volvo straight 6 engine was 1975

Maybe they switched for a few years before the V6 came out in 85.

I have also tried to zoom in on the numer on the rocker cover on the red engine, but the picture has too low resulotion, it gets very grainy. If someone coupled these engines together with Volvo drives, I wonder where they got the manifolds from? I have never seen a "Mercruiser 165" manifold made for triple carb setup. But who knows what has been made in the good old days. Maybe the late Don S could have shed some light on this.....

I googled Volvo Penta AQ 150, and these three pictures appeared. They seemed to be from a Spanish speaking country.

could be a brazil or mexico offering. the 250 and 292 were used in Brazil until 1998 model year

could be an offenhouser 5414 manifold (set up for 3 strombergs)

When I zoom in on the motor it looks like B41A to me. ???? I have no idea if B41A is a V-P setup or not, or if it starts with a "B". 4100 CCs = 250 CI. Googling gives me sites in Portuguese

You are absolutely right, it is a B41A!!!

A 41 engine is usually a diesel, but it seems that Volvo also made a gasoline engine with this name, probably only for south america. I have never seen it here in Europe.

I found this picture in a classified ad.
