Hello fellow Boater,
I wanted to see if someone could help me out here. I'm going to start my first boat restoration (replacing the floor and vinyl) starting this year in hope to have it done by spring of next year. I have been reading a lot of post here and got a good I idea of what needs to be done on my 88 Sea Ray Seville 20” yes it’s an older boat, but got it for a steel. Motors in great shape so is the trailer.
Well my question is…. I’m at a lost to what size motor I really have. My title says 225 HP but referencing my valve cover stickers on the motor they pointing to a 175HP. Are there any other marking I could find to tell me what size I have?

Thanks for the Help

Here’s the info I collected

:welcome: to iboats

Your engine serial number is 0B914147 and it is 175HP. My guess is the 225HP is the maximum HP that can be installed in the boat. Your outdrive serial number is 0B975968 and is an Alpha 1 and the ratio is 1.84. You have a Thunberbolt IV (TB-4) ignition system. Below is a link to parts breakdown

Thank you AllDodge for the quick response and the warm welcome.
I would like to find the service manual for my motor would I be correct in using this one? Mercury Service manual # 25 GM V-6 262 CID 4.3L
Since I have the motor out and being the motor is 26yrs old I wanted to it a part to check the pistons. Motor still sounds tuff and I don’t see any leaks. Guess I’m being over cautious

It could be a 205hp if it has the 4 bbl carb on it but most likely the 175hp with the 2 bbl carb on it.

Hello guys not sure if I need to start a new form here but I want to get a little more advise on what Outdrive will work with my motor. Over the weekend I have my boys helping me move parts around and dang it they broke a piece off of the outdrive fins ( not sure of the name) So looks like I will be needing a new outdrive. Can you point me in the right direction on a replacement ? Once I find the outdrive replacement do I need to replace the Gimble housing as well ? Looking above I have an old Alpha 1 outdrive.

Update on the motor everything seems to be good did a little touch up paint on it Just need to order ne manifolds & risers. been reading a lot about the manifolds on these site . Its better to replace them then trying to welded them,

... broke a piece off of the outdrive fins

Did it break off into the oil gallery? If not, the chances are good you are fine. Many outdrives out there with broken skegs and missing chunks off of the various "fins." It really will not affect the operation of the outdrive or boat. If you really want to replace it, then go with a SE106 complete outdrive from Sterndrive Engineering. You can buy the complete outdrive for around $1,300.

(For the pictures, get a free account with photobucket, then you can post the link here).

What "fin" broke off? If it is the fin at the bottom of the drive it is the skeg and a prop shop can fix it. My friend had to have a new one put on. It was around $100 if I remember right. If you do need a new drive just get an SEI in the same ratio as you have now.

For photos I use photobucket.com

No Title

Fishermark & thumper,
here are a few pictures of the outdrive. the Skeg is not to bad but more worried about the side fin.( not sure what that's called) If you guys say that's fine with the chip. I will start working on the Outdrive this weekend :)

Going to tear it down look at the pump, impeller, gear shifter . Also I would like to sand it down and paint it white again. Any suggestions on the paint?

Thru in a few pictures of the motor as well..

Next month I'm ordering new spark plugs\ spark plug wires\ oil filter\ New belts \ New Manifolds and risers

The part missing the chunk is the cavitation plate. It doesn't look to bad and would probably work fine like it is but you could have a prop shop patch it up if you want.

Sorry for the late response... just got back from a cruise. :joyous: But yeah - that is a cosmetic issue which will not affect your handling one bit.
