Hi there.
i have just got a reman.Mag383 stroker from mercury ...now the issue. The engine is rated 350hp at crankshaft but on the side of the flame arrestor the sticker reports the engine displacemente being 377 and not 383... the engine model is Mcm Mx 6.2 MPI reporting 320 hp?Why it says MAG 383 stroker then?Does anyone know why?
Cheers

Because they didn't have any stickers that say "383" and 350 hp I guess. It's not gods word, it's just a sticker. 6.2L = 375 cid. The Mag 383 stroker from Merc is built on a 350 block I believe. Call em up and ask for the right flame arrestor. I am curious, how much did that set you back?

One would think for 9900 bucks it would come with a super special 383 stroker flame arrestor.........let alone just 383 stickers

But maybe it's derated on the sticker for a legal reason........

It is curious. A 377 is a 350 that has not been bored out, but has the rods for a stroker. A 383 is a 350 that has been bored .030 over with the stroker rods. I would be curious to know which they sent - especially since you say it is a reman.

9900 for a reman fully dressed. I am in the wrong business. But he does get Merc backing it up. Still had to pay for installation?

yes i had to pay for it because i am not in U.S and the dealers where i am have never dealt with a remanufactured engine, basically i had to buy it from a dealer in U.S.Regarding the displacement i will give a call to mercruiser in U.S to see what's going on

why give them a call. its a 6.2 liter or 377 cubic inch (4" bore, 3.75" stroke). the 383 requires an overbore of 0.030" being a reman gives them latitude to go from stock bore of 4.00" or overbore up to 0.030. you wouldnt change the badges on your car if the motor was 0.010 over bored would you?
