I'm looking to verify information regarding my 4.3 190 HP MerCruiser.

1. From what I've seen while looking for the Oil Filter itself, I see what appears to possibly be one that is
located on the aft side of the boat and position to the rear of the block. (Yes/No).

2. What would be correct Oil Filter replacement for this motor.

3. Can anyone recommend a decent oil extraction unit.

4. Is it true that the motor should be warmed up prior attempting to extract the old oil, and should the oil
filter itself be slightly loosened.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ayuh,.... The oil filter is on the Port-side, Aft, down Low on the block,....

I use Napa, 1036 filters, which are rebadged Wix filters,...

I use a Mouller vacuum tank oil extractor,...

Ya, warm oil pumps Easier, but don't loosen the filter, til yer ready to pull it,...
At that point, crack it Loose, then slip a freezer baggie 'round it, unscrew it, 'n let it drop into yer baggie,...
Less Mess that way,...
Ditto yer fuel filter,...

winterize 017.jpgI use a Topsider vaccum oil pump and do warm up the engine for about 20 min or until the temp gauge reads about 160 or so. Filters I use Sierra, I hope you have reasonably good access, I remove the rear seat on that side and the port side battery to get at mine....
