Mercruiser Jet Drive

I have seen pictures of a Mercruiser jet drive....
I currently own a starcraft american 20 runabout which is kinda heavy. It has a Mercruiser 165 /250 I6 GM MC1.
Has anyone had a boat with the Mercruiser Jet Drive? do they work decently? and is there any hope of ever finding one used laying around... I can find pix of a jet that starcraft sold about the same time.

Just my opinion - never had one and never liked 'em. They are a glorified jet ski. They appear to be over powered for the sizes of boats and look dangerous to me.
