I am looking at buying an 2008 Regal 2200 w/ Merc 350 Mag 300 HP serial no. 1A11921B and wanted to know if this motor has change in the newer model years through 2012, or if there any model years to stay away from ? Differnt performance ? or are all the 350 Mags the same the last few years?

Also the drive is a Bravo 1 1.65 Serial # W942201 same questions have these changed ?

What are the pro's and con's of the Bravo 3 compared to Bravo 1's ? I had been told that single prop's had more top end (MPH) but I accuried Colbalt prop test charts and in similar size and weight boats (22' @ 3700#) the Bravo 3 were 1-2 MPH faster on GPS ? Any insite would be appreiciated !

I think these are serial numberas as they are on the order sheet I recieved from Regal.

Thanks

Scott

PS: I know this is a Merc page and thought on the VP 5.7 SX combo compared to Mercs set up above ? alot of these regals are VP powered ?

Depending on how you use your boat, I think you'll be happier with a Bravo III. You will have FAR better hole-shot and slow speed performance.

Top speed with a Bravo III is considered to be a tad slower, but it's worth it!

The 21ft Four Winns 211 Liberator in my Sig below went about 60 mph when the 460/King Cobra was installed and now goes 57 mph with the 454/Bravo III.

Both engines are similar in weight and HP (460---340 crankshaft HP, 454---330 crankshaft HP)

The boat was quite "slow" out of the hole and getting up on plane even when it was new (my Brother bought it new) But with the 454/B3, it just ROCKETS out of the hole by comparison.

Slow speed control in FWD and REV with a Bravo III is amazingly precise by comparison too. The only downside of the Bravo III is the cost of propellers.

The speed thing with B3's is that they are not recommended above 60 MPH, that's where they start to fall off some. Under 60, I agree with Rick, B3. I have a 57 MPH B1, it is fantastic, but . . . I would go B3 if all else was equal. One thing that is not equal: Prop cost ;)

Edit: I see Rick notes prop cost as well.

I have been thinking about installing either a built 502 or a stroked/bored 454 and 28 or 30p props (I have 26p props now) .

At 5000 RPM with 30p props (1.81:1 drive) , I could conceivably get about 70mph. A guy over on "Offshoreonly" said his 211 Lib "buried the speedometer at 80 mph" with a King Cobra and a stroked 460 (whatever that is)

The boat can be pretty "squirrelly" at 57 mph if you hit a wave "wrong" I am not sure I want to run it above 60..............In a year or so......I will be "Over 60" I probably need to go to a cruiser type boat so the temptation is not there!!!

Both will perform nearly the same..... and have approx the same reliability etc.....

My choice would be the Mercruiser though because I do all of my own maintenance. There's FAR more used (and possibly new) parts availability online. Check ebay, craigslist, and other online sources of new and used parts any day and you'll find about 3-4 times more new/used parts for Mercruiser than for Volvo.

From this info, it looks like us B1 owners are gonna be good to well past 100 :p

BTW, your old OMC was rated at the crankshaft and not the propshaft, so it really is about a 230 or 235 ;) Important to compare apples to apples.

Thanks for all the help !
Here's what I ending up with; I couldn't find any with a Bravo three and not many were made made with merc's mostly Volvo's with SX and then only found one with DP drive, so I went with the MERC !

2008 Regal 2200 Mercury 350 mag, Bravo 1 with alot of options and 40.5 hrs. Taking her it out today for a long ride only did a short water test before purchase. It has a 4 blade Mercury Vensura 19 P ss prop, going to verify the tach as it seems a little off against a inductive shop tach. Do great deal that why I was looking this time of year, 50 % of a new 2012 with same options and about 10 K under average retail so far I'm real happy !

Any one know about the step fast trak hulls and Prop's It was mentioned to me that the regals w/ step hull like the 4 blade props over a 3 blade Mirage Plus / any insight for the experts ?
