Anything is possible with enough money and parts, but a lot depends on what was hooked to that drive before, and what the gear ratio. Then you will need the engine flywheel, flywheel housing, flexplate, exhaust tube to the drive, and may need some other types of engine changes.

Thanks for the quick reply,
I am looking at buying another boat that has an older TAMD 31 on a shaft drive,
my boat has quite a youthfull KAD 32 (400 hours) I was considering whether it would be possible and worth the effort to swap the engines over? your opinion/view would be much appreciated,
thank you.

Why not stick with the 32, same basic engine both have turbochargers and aftercoolers, but with the supercharger (why it's a 32, not a 31) it will be a lot quicker to plane out. Depending on the model of the 31, it could have a lot less HP.

Sorry Don, as usual i have not made myself clear,
my plan is to keep the new boat but remove the 130hp TAMD 31 from it
and fit my KAD 32 into the new boat, but the new boat is shaft and my old boat is 290,
if it could be done then my old boat could retire to gentle estuary cruising with the TAMD hooked up to the duo,
