Boat is a 1970 Gibson 36' with a Mercruiser 225HP 302 installed. Clearly the out drive is toasted thanks to electrolysis that got it so bad there are holes and pieces missing. I need help identifying exactly what the out drive is so I can find a replacement. Thanks all in advance!

I would pull the ford motor and all the drive components, then drop in a 6.2/bravo package

Is it possible to find a TR/TRS drive on eBay or anything anymore?

6.2 Bravo package.... motor/drive/everything? Any idea if the transom holes are the same or would I need to redo the transom as well? Not that it matters much, just wanting to know what can of worms I'm opening up.

transom key is same, later drives have two extra holes that you need to drill.

it may be possible to find and old TR/TRS drive, then rebuild it, however it may be cheaper to go with something built 40 years newer. it will definitely be faster to find a late-model wrecked boat

Funny, I saw that TRS on there and barfed at the price. Gotta pay to play though, I get that. That is just the outdrive though and ideally I'd like to get the gimbal ring and housing and the bell housing, basically everything outside the transom.

Nope,.... Different hole,.... The TR/ TRS is a bigger hole, much like the older Volvo transom holes,.....

Smaller than an OMC Stringer hole, but bigger than the now industry standard,....

Ayuh,.... It's almost exactly the same as the old Volvo large cut-out,....

Matter of fact, there's an adapter plate out there for closin' in the Volvo/ TR hole to the standard Merc cut-out, for 'bout a grand,..

I've seen Bob use that adapter for both,...

There was a question raised amongst friend that perhaps I could use an alpha 1 gen 1. Any truth to that?

based on what Bondo is saying.....no

the choices are fix the transom and move to either an Alpha or Bravo or stay with the TRS drive or get the adapter

that adapter plate that Bondo references in post #13 is required if it is the one for adapting a Volvo AQ / BMW hole to an Alpha/Bravo. the Mercruiser part number is 827691a1 and it is between $600 and $1100 depending on where you get it. Mercruiser is cheapest

One of the guys that works for/with iBoats thought he had an outdrive. Turns out, nope. This outdrive is three feet tall from Skeg to lifting ring.

Looking more and more like a repower is the answer. Where are good places to source from? Just buy a boat with what I need off craigslist or something and strip it?
