What method is recommended for flushing an Outdrive ?

The boat was kept in the ocean harbor for 1 year. I just bought it and put it on the trailer. I connected the hose and ran the motor for 15 min while I flushed it.

Should that be enough?

How much better are the motor flush solutions?

Thanks

I'm guessing your wanting to flush the motor, the outdrive would have been flushed shortly after the motor started. It will take some time to get most all the slat out of a motor. The thermostat opens only for a short time then closes back with cool water, if warmer water it can stay open a bit longer.

If you want to try and get it all out, it would be easiest to dunk it in a fresh water body and take it for a spin

As alldodge suggests...or make sure the thermostat has opened on the muffs at least.
Handy if you can launch and retrieve on a fresh water river....does all the flushing for you on the way back (tide dependant)

in the 15 mns that you had it running on muffs,it came up to operating temp for at least 5 of those minutes you will have done a good flush.
