I would rather have a 350 but that 305 is the same just a smaller bore. Ran man of them in boats and trucks. Cost to build is the same as a 350. If you get a deal well its a deal.

Externally the same dimensions, however cylinder combustion chambers are different, the 305 has smaller valves, and the intake and exhaust ports are smaller.

You can't use the starter, dizzy, carb, alternator or water pump.

Strip it down to shortblock, knock out the steel core plugs, replace with brass, change the head gasket. Install the marine cam, marine waterpump, marine exhaust, marine ignition, etc.

Heck clean it up, dont worry with head gaskets. If they arent bad now they are fine. Been running mine for years. Didnt change freze plugs either but I am in fresh warer. Just went down last weekend and put two new ones in a 350 mercury in a Fantasy Houseboat. They were steel. Good enough for Mercruise good enough for me. Swap the carb, distribitor, starter and drop it in.
