I am looking at purchasing a Bryant 22 foot boat with a 4.3 6 cylinder motor with 190 horsepower. Is this enough for this boat?

Bryants are nice boats, and well made. Usually this means they are fairly heavy by size.

A 4.3 is probably marginal in most boats bigger then about 20'-21', but it depends. I've seen a single one paired with Bravo III or DPS-A drives on boats up to 23'.

The best way to answer the question is to water trial the boat with your expected load aboard. Do you know if the motor/drive is original to the boat?

Welcome to Iboats,

Will depend entirely on your boating style and how many boaters you intend going out with. Can always maximize a prop to take the max HP out as currently loaded.

Happy Boating

Myself, a 5.7 would be the absolute smallest I would go in a 22 ft.

It seems low on power to me but it depends on what you want to do with it. With the 4.3l it may use more fuel than a V8 would because the 6 is going to have to work a lot harder.

thumper is right on target the 4.3 will use more fuel to push the boat same speed as a 5.7 I found this out long ago with our two work trucks one had a 4.7 v8 other had a 5.3 v8 to pull same load same exact trucks fuel mpg went down to 12 mpg for 4.7 where as the 5.3 went from 16 to 15 .

Precisely!! what's enough boat engine for me is not enough for you...... or vice versa... a 4.3 in fine shape vs a 5.7 you keep dumping $ into.. condition, condition, condition

If 30mph top speed is your goal, then you'll be fine.

My 21ft center console has a 4.3 in it. It had a 17 pitch prop on it and I went down to a 15 to maximize the RPM and get up on plane a little faster. The guy I bought it from only ever fished by himself but with a couple people and 2 dogs, the 17 pitch wasn't enough for me.
