Ran into this situation this past week a couple times, looking for some guidance.
Went and docked the boat and came back acouple hours later. Turned the key and nothing, no engine turning over, clicking of the starter, etc even though on of the gauges and radio worked. Moved the throttle back and forth, nothing. So pushed the choke in and slide the throttle in reverse and found a spot where the boat started up. This same thing happened the next morning also. It's like the throttle isn't finding or engaging into nuetral.
What is happening and how can I fix this? Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

sounds like your neutral safety switch - i don't know where it's at on a Mercruiser I/O - but if you google that I think that will point you the right direction.
