Need to make a pilot bushing for the raw water pump to be centric on the crank. !@#$%@#$ machinist hack at work messed up twice, having the head of the dept. turn it for a 3rd time

re-design the lower alternator bracket to allow plumbing of the new OC. anyone need a new Billet Specialties alternator mounting kit?

a few things I observed. while building the motor is the easy part, re-designing all the brackets, revising the oil cooler mounting, revising the plumbing, is a pain in the butt.

Here are a few links to help some people

looking for that specific oil pressure switch..... to use as a safety shut-down and fuel pump control.

airtex/wells 1S6551, 1S6552 or 1S6553. (depends on which oil port you are using) Terminal 2 is normally closed, opens at 2-7 psi. run this to the - side of the coil. that way if oil pressure drops below 7 psi, it kills the ignition. Terminal 1 and 3 are normally open and close between 3-9 psi. use these to power the fuel pump relay

Note, Napa can cross-reference to their Echlin brand. Autozone or Advance Auto have no clue on how to cross-refference.

oil filters..... only going to use WIX. settled on 51512. Full flow, no bypass valve, anti-drain back valve.

you can look up any WIX filter by size and feature. since I am running a filter head with 3/4-16 threads, I chose above.

Unable to find the 51512 filter or specs. I'm using the 51060R which filters at 61 microns at 28 GPM. The standard 51060 filters at 21 microns at 9 to 11 GPM

You sure this is the same one you where looking at, found at first? It's max flow rate is only 7-9 GPM. It says its is used for small diesel motors like in forklifts, tractors and such

yes.

BBC pump cant flow more than 15 GPM. so I am using two of the filters for initial run in. (21 micron)

depends on what the pressure gauges state.

had a bit of a setback this week as the trans went on the car...... ugh

however last night, got some plumbing done, just need to pick up some new stainless hose clamps and oil tonight. will fill the sump, mark the dipstick, then add a few extra quarts as the lines, filters and cooler should take almost 4 quarts as well. should be able to prime the motor and do a final stab of the dizzy

new alternator brackets being cut on the laser today to clear the little bit of raw water plumbing from the oil cooler to the pump

filled the motor with oil and primed. total of 10.5 quarts in the system. 7 in the sump, 3.5 in the filters and lines

time to pull the motor off the stand and build a skid.

first....weld up a lifting frame. no sense using chains

Could you move this along a bit faster...maybe take some time off work.....im sure that would go over just peachy. Lol fantastic detail and work,I'm sure that ride will pull like at tractor over 60 mph. Great job

I mentioned to the admiral I had not done anything on it in the past 4 weeks. with the trip to WI to drive down with dad, Thanksgiving, Christmas decorations, etc.

I did get the new motor mounts modified by making new stainless studs.

will be posting a few pics later this week as I get the wiring finished and fire it up on the skid.

had taken a bunch of pics this past weekend....phone flaked out and I lost them.

new Barr marine mounts, pulled apart, zinc plated steel stud replaced with 316L stainless stud. had to fix the lord mount in the center, the poor fit of the cheap hardware on the Barr mounts deformed the center tube in the center-bonded mount.

made up new turnbuckle for adjusting the alternator. now I can sell the billet specialties stuff as it didnt fit with the raw water plumbing from the oil cooler. used the laser to make new brackets (shown prior)

wanting stainless loop clamps, needed for 3/8 fasteners. only 304 stainless is available and they only fit 1/4" fasteners, and the zinc coated stuff rusts. laser and heat shrink to the rescue

the gates molded hose catalog is a life saver for finding molded hoses

used it to find a few hoses with the right bends. this one is just a tad bit straight, however I will cut it shorter and use a copper tube mender. sure fits nice around the custom alternator bracket

time for wiring. main harness connector for the AQ series of motors leaves a bit to be desired. called a vendor, got a Deutsch 9-pin connector and pins as a "sample" about $80 worth of connector to upgrade the harness. having new cables made to go from the new 105 amp alternator to the battery, and upgrading the 40 amp main breaker to a 50 amp with larger wiring. adding a fuel pump relay to go with the oil pressure switch.

used the gates belt catalog. old motor used a gates 9470 belt as the alternator belt. used the belt, cut it, to determine the new belts. Gates 9455 and 9580. local FLAPS wanted $18 for one, and $16 for the other and they had to order them in. Amazon, $16 and $4... will be here Friday
