VP 290DP drive. I know it came factory in front of a 454, and plenty of people pushing 496's. It will be running Amsoil synthetic.

If I decide to go with the 4.375 stroke, I would probably pick up an 8.1 liter core. then again, I would probably do something stupid like a 150 shot on top....and promptly blow the drive.

Ahh i see that is one problem i do not have...mashing the throttle that is, but i really do enjoy going air born but prop re entry is a driver breaker at those tourqe level's.. crosses finger's..The only reason i posted the 4.375 stoke is it would be a real tourqe monster with the proper compression ratio...cheap and big. It might not need any Clearancing with a 4bolt main.

Cheap would be stock stroke using a gen VI shortblock and just replacing the slugs and can.

They sell new for $900 and it includes the brass plugs for the bottom, Bolts and washers to install, and studs, washers and nuts for the stainless elbow. If it comes with all that then it's a good deal. Whole new one for silent choice setup is $1755.

That said the elbow will cost another $850 or so for new. These are the same ones I have (mine are black) but I bought the whole thing before I had to rebuild and got new 3-inch higher elbows. Might want to PM me if interested

I missed out on the EMI's when I went to log back into fleabay, they were gone.

I did hear back from Eddie Marine. they did say the ones on Ebay were at least 10 years old, and warranty is non transferable.

Will admit EMI are not the best IMO (what I have and still use), more like GIL's but that said for fresh water they do fine for the money. If the budget is of no option I would go Stainless Marine every time, high quality stuff and customer service is the best

However to get the boat on the water sooner, I may have to look at Aluminum GLM or HGE's as the budget is dependent on available cash in hand

My concern on the GLM's is the quality documented on here and elsewhere. The HGE's are inexpensive, and I could send out for hard coat anodizing.

I would stick with cast iron stock before going to aluminum of same design. Cast does weight more but also better quality and longevity

Another option to possibly consider looking into is if your not caring about having the fanciest looking exhaust money can buy and don't mind having something within the stock range that tends to work really well performance wise over the merc stock 2 piece center flow exhaust design, Maybe try finding a set of later model 2004+ Mercruiser 496 dry joint exhaust as they do bolt up onto a 454 head.

GLM all day long...you may have to true them a bit.....for engines spinning below 6000 rpm i just don get the cost to gain rato. A personal opinion would be to spend money on porting the large oval port heads...larger vales and call it a day.

Fun Times, because of the articles on OSO, etc. for the 496 manifolds on the 454, people think their used 496 manifolds are worth gold. used 496 manifolds for $800, a bit more gets you EMI's, etc. manifolds and risers for a 496 going in the $1500 range. if I am going to spend that, I would probably go with the Danas.

So I call my old college roomate Ron, who probably has driven more miles 1320' at a time under 10 seconds than anyone I know. I asked him if he still had a pile of BBC parts. He has a 1978 2-bolt block, and a set of low hour marine 1998 Vortec heads. Just scored a set of heads for $150.

I then asked if he knew of a place with a gen 6 BBC core (1996-2000), and he said Norbs (about 8 miles from my storage unit) had one for $400. So I emailed them.

at the end of the month, making the trip north to the land of Beer, Cheese, Snowmobiling, Ice Fishing, and most importantly, my cherry picker, engine stand, and a pile of BBC parts.

with the Gen 6 parts, I can most likely build a 468 for about $1800 total ,or a 496 for $2500
