Mercruiser 302 ford

A 1974 century boat i just bought has a mercruiser 302 ford (windsor)4 barrel.The tag says model #225R.My question is what does the R stand for as all i can find is info on a 225S and how many HP does this engine have?I have seen 188hp (888) and 225 hp.I have also seen the decription of MIE.(mercruiser inboard engine ??).Any info would be great!Thanks

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Donno what the R stands for, but if it's got a 2bbl. carb it's a 188 hp, 'n 225 with a 4bbl.carb,....

Did some review in Merc manual 2, and best I can come up with is there is an S and a TR ford 302. Could be instead of TR it is just called R. There are different bearing differences and cam lobe. Biggest problem with the online manual is it won't get large enough for these old eyes to see clearly. Either way my guess.
