What will the difference be?

Hello everyone. I may have touched on this subject before, but I cant remember. Anyways, here is my situation. My mercruiser MC-1 needs repainted. And not just overcoated, the whole nine yards. Which I can do, I have the materials. However, I also have another upper unit which is in really good shape. The lower unit would have to be done regardless, but it would save me some work if I could just swap out the uppers. But here is the thing...my existing upper is a 1.5 - 1, and the one thats in good shape is a 1.32-1. So my question is this...if I were to swap them , how much of a performance change would there be? Would it be noticeable, and if so , HOW noticeable? Oh...and I have a 23ft 1978 Century 5000 with a newly rebuilt 260.

Are you sure it's 1.32, I don't see one of that ratio, lowest I seem to remember is 1.47

100 % positive its a 1.32-1. Its an outdrive that I acquired...not the one that is on the boat at present.

Your right, just found the 1.32 ratio.

So to go back to your question; you could make it work depending on what your current prop pitch is. If your running a high enough pitch then you can prop down, but if your already low, you have no where to go

The 1.32:1 was mated to the 454 for a couple years before they figured out the drive couldn't handle it.

Ayuh,.... For some odd reason, the 1.32:1 was used with the Ford 351s, 'n MC-1 drives,....

The Alpha 1 with 1.32:1 was used for a couple of years with the BBCs, til Bravos came out,....
