I hit a floating tree in my 1998 Crownline 182 BR with the alpha one inboard motor, which broke one of the ears on the gimble. No other damage that I can see.... it is the holiday weekend and I am wondering if I could use the boat during the weekend before sending it to the shop?

It's not letting me upload the pictures. Do you have an email I can send it to?

Hi there, welcome to iboats!:) Sorry to see your extensive damage.

Since the bottom part of the gimbal ring that broke is connected to the front trim pin, it doesn't appear that it would be safe to use the boat any further until it is repaired correctly.....The repair that appears needed may be worth having your boat insurance help you out financially.

We've moved your topic from Mercury O/B to Merc I/O sub-forum... thanks and good luck.

+1 ^^^^

The pictures are a great help (thanks) and I add my vote to the fix before further use column. Some lateral movement was probably needed in order to break the gimbal ring in that fashion. So, it would be good to see if other damage has occurred.

Gimbal rings are $600 ish for the part, but expect $1500 - $2000 for the complete repair.
