Boat is a 14' Grumman alum semi-v which is 465lbs dry,I'm 182,gas,battery,24v Min Kota and some other stuff. On back is a '73 9.8 with 2-blade prop which I assume is stock. Most of the ignition is new and carb has been cleaned internally. It seems to run ok except it needs a shot to start. It accelerates to WOT but will not plane...tilt is on next to bottom hole. I was told weight and prop are probably issues. It does not sound like it is running at or near full rpm capability.

I'm a little experienced with these but ignorance is always an issue.

My 14' Western aluminum will not plane with my wife and I on it, I am running the same motor 9.8 Mercury and I have tried every single trim position, it just not have the power to plane a 14' boat with that type of weight on it. Your Grumman weighs a few more pounds than my Western Aluminum so I suspect you will perform about the same way my set up does.

It is the old saying "Need More Power"
