Just bought a little used 1991 Mercury 3hp 2 stroke. It runs great, however, I want to fully service it and can't find the best resource for maintenance and parts. Any advice or personal experience would be helpful. Thanks

Just change lower end lube and install new washers. I would change the water impeller, since you don't know when it was changed, if ever. that's it,

I am having real trouble finding the impeller for sale anywhere. I believe my motor is a 1991 serial #OA873345. Any ideas?

Here's an online service manual: http://www.boatinfo.no/lib/mercury/manuals/22-25-3-33.html#/0

Plenty of "47-95289 2" impellers on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/391181884167

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201309757114

And elsewhere:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/parts/13602.cfm

http://www.boats. net/parts/detail/mercury/outboard/M-95289%20%202.html

http://www.marineengine. com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=MER47-95289++2

Just remove the space when you copy/paste into address bar. This site parses some competing web sites, even though you can't get that part here!

Note that some sites might drop the "47-" prefix from the part, but it's still the same part.

This motor was marketed by other folks too.-------It is not built by Mercury-------Your local Yamaha / Johnson / Evinrude dealer and others use the same part.-------Should not be a problem finding that part !!

Every time I have come to this website over the years, I always get good, educated help. Thank you very much. I have a G3 16 Guide Boat that I use to putt around Sand Hook in NJ with a 2005 Mercury 25hp 2 stroke. I wanted a small, light kicker so that if the my main motor ever breaks down, I have a way back. I haven't tested this 3hp motor yet, but I am sure it will work fine. I purposely bought a light, short shaft kicker even though it's a 20" transom just so that it's even less noticeable on there. Just looking to limp the boat back if I need to, so the shaft length should be no big deal, we'll see when I test it out. Thanks again.
