The driveshaft or prop (if engine is not running) needs to be turning when you shift into reverse due to the way the shift cogs and slots are setup in R gear. Don't try to force it or you will damage your linkage....per the manual.
Agree, whomever messed with the other cable messed up this one. Possibly the barrel on the cable got moved which will change the linkage setup on your remote cable. Lots of info in the archives on how to set it up properly....I know my inputs are there.
