Long time lurker, first time dealing with a Mercury. As stated I'm dealing with a 2005 90hp EFI Serial# 1B709279. Started the motor, let it warm up, made it 900 yards and the engine died. Will turn over but hasn't cranked since. Getting good fuel flow to the rail, and good mist from the cyls when turning over. Plugs are new.
Checked fuses. Does the brain go out on this motor regularly?
Any help appreciated...

Thanks for the reference. This motor has the coil packs directly on the spark plugs, thus the question about the brain. Cant imagine all 4 coil packs going out at the same time. (w/o a major open in the harness) or heaven forbid, the brain crashing. Going to retrace the wires from the packs to the brain today, and clean all the grounds. (this should be the only common wires to the packs, correct?)

Re-checked the wires, and fuses. Something still sticks in my brain..... Been charging the battery for several hours and can't seem to get it above 63% charge (about 12.2 volts until you turn it over).
Might make myself sound a bit ignorant here but....... Are these "New Fangled" Engines 12v Sensing? Could it be that the alternator went out and the Battery Got below 12v?

Sounds more like you need to load test the battery while checking the Cold cranking apps to see where they stand as these engines are very sensitive to weak, undercharged, under amped, under powered batteries. Being an EFI engine you should have about 750+ Cold cranking amp marine starting battery....non deep cycled.

Average battery life span varies anywhere between 2 ~ 6 years. Thorough testing is usually the best way to know the batteries full condition.

Ok gang, if a coil pack goes out... ie. my number 3. it will blow a fuse, number 4. on the top fuse pack back left on the motor. this will not let the motor fire. 0 coils will have spark. hope this helps.
