Can I swap powerhead between old Mercury Engines (1969 - 1977)?

I have a 1977 Mercury 1500 outboard motor that I blew last Summer by overheating. I found a 1969 Mercury 1000 (100hp) motor that has good compression on all 6-cylinders.

The 1969 Merc 1000 needs some work to get running, but, I'm wondering if it would be possible to bolt the powerhead onto my 1977 1500.

Will it bolt on properly? Will I have any issues with the ratio? Is this even possible?

Thanks.

Sorry but no as the 1000 exhaust design is different, has more studs than the 1500 . Just swap both engine and swap trim to the 100hp

Thank you. As it seems like you have some knowledge in the area. Would most of the other parts be universal? Wiring Harness, Stator, Impellar?
