You might post a picture. There were at least two different fuel pump types. There were dual fuel pumps mounted on the transfer covers and single fuel pumps mounted on the lower cowling. I cannot tell which you have from your description.
It sounds like you are looking at the oil recirculating line from the bottom main bearing to the top main bearing. That runs next to the carbs, and is much smaller than your fuel line.
