1985 35hp mercury engine removal

trying to remove engine block to rebuild , but get it up about 1/2" and it stops moving . I think maybe the drive-shaft is frozen to bottom of the crank-shaft ! any help or ideals ? motor ser.# A154018 , thanks jp54

trying to remove lower unit , but does the same thing ,about a haft inch stops .! I've wedged some chisels between the lower unit and exhaust housing , will leave for a few days ,see if that does any good . Any other suggestions ?? thanks jp

Flip the motor upside down on a blanket. Spray some PB Blaster our similar penetrating oil down the driveshaft and let it seep into the upper splines as best you can. Continue with the wedges and hope for the best.

The shift shaft is splined and there is nothing to disconnect on that.
