I picked up a 89 mariner 9.9 cheapish knowing it had no spark I unhooked the kill switch still no spark either cylinder
I think the trigger is good I get an ohm reading on it but the stater I get a reading from the black/yellow to ground but no reading from black/white to ground or the two together just trying to figure out what is bad so I don't buy things that are fine l like the starter box I did notice it has two black with yellow come out of the starter box one to the stater other to kill switch could those be wrong ? If anyone can walk me through troubleshooting that would be awesome pm me I can call whoever
Thanks a bunch

Forget using resistance as your test system. To properly test ignition components you need to use a DVA meter. This meter measures the peak voltage output of the various components, and is the only way to test things properly.

For a DVA you can either buy a DVA capable meter, which Harbour Freight have a special on today! or use a normal meter and build a DVA adaptor....

Read this thread about the special -> http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...board-discussions/9829945-i-need-a-multimeter
or this one to make your own adaptor -> http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=374544

Direct Voltage Adapter. Basically it reads peak voltage... Normal meters read average voltage.
