I've got a 1976 4.5 hp Merc but I dont have the connector for my gas tank. I know it's the typical "bayonet" style connector from mercs around this time. but I'm curious if anyone knows what specific size it is? I'm assuming it's a 3/8'' but i've also heard they made a 1/4'' and even a 5/16''. any help would be awesome

I believe that the factory fuel connector was the small unit and can be hard to find for replacement. You might be able to get one on the web or just run a length of hose and a different connection from the carb to the outside of the motor, or to just the connection on the tank. A check at a local dealer might get you one also. Mercury did use two different size fuel connectors. Small on the 10 HP and smaller and the larger on motors over 10 HP. Some on the forum might have one and PM you if they do have one you need. JMO
