Guys I have a 1958-59 Mercury 45hp Mark 58A on my Boston Whaler 13. I didn't get it out on the water last year but I started it up a couple times. Today I fired it up. I decided to change the lower unit oil. It drained out slow and I noticed the oil was milky. I changed it with Mercury 80-90 weight oil. I ran it for a bit and changed it again. It was milky again. Is this normal on these old motors? I also noticed some seepage from these holes on the side of the case. Should I take it to the lake and run it and check it again? Or do I need seals?

Those are water drain holes but in your case the seal(s) in the waterpump and driveshaft are leaking oil and/or the washers under the oil fill screws are missing. It is not normal. It's a good time to replace the waterpump impeller too. Parts here http://store.oldmercs.com/category_s/716.htm

Can you help me out with the part numbers merc850? I am a rookie at this. Taking it to a shop is out of the question right now. Any special tools needed?
Thanks

That link I gave you is to a site that has the parts manuals etc. the next page has the complete LU seal kit. If a Mercury dealer will undo the WP cover and pull the pump housing it will save you a lot of time. One thing that's easy to check is the shift shaft seal see dia. M58-impellersmall.jpg
this site is for older Mercs http://johnsoldmercurysite.com/phpBB3/index.php
