I have a 1993 mariner 90hp will a 1984 90hp. Mariner lower unit work on it. Do they interchange? If so is the whole motor basically the same?

I'm not at home so can't use my serial number look up books, but I'm 99% sure the 1993 90hp is a 3 cylinder, and I'm 100% sure the 1984 is a 6 cylinder. In which case the only things you can use from one engine to the other is the fuel line connector and the engine controls and cables.

Units will not interchange.... If you need a replacement unit you need to check to see if you have a 3 or 6 jam clutch as this was the year(93) they did the change. A 3 or 6 jaw will not interchange without shift modifications...

So the one I have is a 4 cyl. 90hp possibly 81 or 1980 . Have to look at it tomorrow to be sure. So they will not interchange. Bummer! What year will interchange besides 93?

Post serial number as there is no 4 cyl 90hp ..only 3 or 6 cylinder. If its a 1993 it a 3cyl...

Ok, so we have 3 engines already mentioned, one of which doesn't exist. Please tell us exactly which engine you have...

If you have an earlier 4 cylinder, it's either 80hp or 85hp (though a bit later it was called 75hp). Or if it's the smaller block 4 cylinder it could be a 40, 45 or 50hp...

If it's 1993, then as a 90hp it will be a 3 cylinder.
If it's earlier (pre 1986) as a 90hp it will be a 6 cylinder...

There never was a 4 cylinder 90hp... Unless it's white, in which case it will be a V4... ;)

Sorry it was dark when I looked at it last night. It is an inline 6cyl 1979 1/2 according to the sticker on the motor. LOL
