2003 mercury 115hp 4 stroke EFI piston linkage

i have a 2003 mercury 115hp 4 stroke, that lost its # piston linkage. Mechanic says unfixable. anyone else had this problem. heard no sounds, engine was being cooled with water circulating and good oil. just would like to know if anyone else had this problem.

Never heard of "lost it's piston linkage", did he mean broke a connecting rod?
