Manufacturer: Mercury Marine
Serial Number: 05875380
Model Group: 200 H.P. (V-6) (1978-1988)

I have the above engine.

Long story, short...

Replaced the carbs, runs waaaaay better...check out the links below...

Now I need to convert from one choke system to the other...

Original carbs were set up with a fuel enrichment valve that dumped raw fuel from carb # 1, to carbs #2 & 3...

Replacements require an air-type choke which uses butterflies and either a pull-in choke solenoid to activate them or a manual choke pull, mounted to the attenuator plate...

I found a choke plate on evil bay and would like to know if this will work...sorry, I couldn't seem to find the right way to link it...gonna have to copy and paste...

What mine looks like...

We all know pictures can be decieving, but from the looks of it, seems almost identical to the one on this engine, originally, but with the butterfly assemblies...
And YES, I did see where his is stated to be from a 1977, 175HP Black Max...but from several encounters already with these V-6's...they do seem to share a lot of parts...

The biggest difference I see between the two is that on the original the two rectangular air chambers above the middle and lower carbs, versus the ebay one without the two cutouts...
Other than that, if necessary, I should be able to swap the choke plates, shafts, hardware and linkage to the original one...

For the time being, I'll prolly put a manual choke cable near by till we can acquire the solenoid...

Sent the seller a Q about the casting #...still waiting to hear back...

Any thoughts, hints, suggestions, been there done that's, questions I should be asking, etc., that could steer me towards a happy ending is highly appreciated...:D

Thanks!

Why in the world would you want to go backwards???? Take your old carbs an d a smal punch and knock the fittings out and drill and install on the replacement carbs. It will start a whole lot easier.........
