Merc 500 parts interchange

I've got two Merc 500's. One is a 1961 and the other is a 1976. The later one has a blown powerhead due to somebody (not me!) rebuilding it wrong. The other seems to be good but the starter is bad. Can I use the electrical system parts and carbs from the 76 merc on the 61? Will any parts interchange?

Not likely. They share basic configuration of bore and stroke, but beyond that there's very little in common. Better off finding something from mid seventies, or getting the 61 running.
