Water in Mercury optimax 200 engine compartment

Need help. I am getting water in my engine compartment. I take the cover of and no water comes in the motor. I drive slow and still no water in the compartment. I put the cover back on and go 20 mph stop the boat and lift the motor and 1 to 2 gallons pours out of the motor. Can anyone tell me where the water might be coming from. Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Well, sounds like time for a faster test with the cowling off. I believe the compressor is water cooled. You might start looking there.

The diaphram on myh poppet valve assembly was ripped. I replaced and I am going to take it for a ride this weekend. Hopefully that was the issue. Thanks.
