1982 Mercury 4.5 1 cyl

Cannot get fire unless the throttle is almost wide open, then when put into gear it will die. Coil problem ? Will start but not unless throttle is set on fast. Will not run even out of gear with throttle set below shift.

I would suspect the ignition advance lever is stuck or sticking

FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM SCOTT, THE WIRES WERE SO CORRODED THEY WERE BROKEN INTO SMALL PIECES INSIDE THEIR INSULATION AND THEY WERE NOT MAKING GOOD CONTACT AT TIMES , I DID POST TODAY IN MY POST ABOUT REMOVING THE FLYWHEEL ABOUT IT.
