i got a 1984 mercury 90 hp that we changed the impeller on now it pees fine but i got no neutral. always seems to be in forward gear. prop makes a tick when in neutral and you spin it by hand. im sure we got the linkage off a bit but can you adjust it without dropping the lower unit and if not is there a easy way to get it lined up in the right spot?

No way to fix this without dropping the lower unit. While I'm not the expert in getting back in line, I do understand what happens.... guess how I know....LOL. Common problem is that people don't put the reverse lockout disk back in the right spot and don't get the shift shaft back in the right spot. Guys who do it all of the time have their own ways of doing it, some in neutral, some in reverse. The third issue is does your reverse lock now work correctly?

Remove the gearcase. Turn the lower shift cable CCW until it clicks into neutral. Set control to neutral. Install the gearcase.
