Hi,
I am thinking of buying a boat motor trailer for cheap. I really just want the trailer so whatever I strip off the boat is a bonus + it has what appears to be a pretty good condition 90 HP Merc on it. I am going to go look at it this weekend.

Here is the description:

Motor: Last time I used the boat- 2 summers ago- was going top speed (40 mph), suddenly lost most of its power, but kept running. It's got 2 switchboxes, each of which give spark to 3 cylinders- acted like one went bad. Always ran very strong before this, I don't believe the motor has seen a lot of use considering it's age. Just charged the battery.

Whats the general sense on these motors? Good, bad, reliable, not reliable?

The trailer alone is well worth the money so If I can get the motor to run on the cheap, its all gravy.

Thanks!

Scott

That motor should have a modern ADI ignition on it. The inline six motor design was a good one. If it has good compression, it may be worth fixing.
