Mercruiser wont always start,must keep cycling key ??

I have a 2002 Sea Ray with a 5.0 merc.. most of the time you have to turn the key on and off and on and off several times before it starts.
I replaced ignition switch,it still does it ?? could it be a safety switch ??? or is it something else ...... Thank you in advance

That Mercruiser probably has a slave solenoid on the left side of the motor. You can replace that. However, my experience shows that it will turn out to be the starter solenoid. I think it sticks in the barrel, when the key is turned.
