Does it make sense to rebuild a 2005 Mercury 4 stroke Big foot that burned a hole through the block. Why would it burn a hole through the block? How hard would it be to get a new block, cyls and crank and rebuild it? Thanks!

What motor is this? Where is the hole? Are you sure a rod didn't make the hole? I have seen motors where the rod went through the case!!!

I'm not sure star. It's not my motor and I've not seen it. What would be the difference?

Each series of motors have their history of failures, big and small. Parts are so expensive it doesn't pay even if you do it yourself. I have seen 9/15hp 4 strokes that lost the connecting rod bolts and destroyed the case as it came apart. If you find another motor that has a LU problem you can put it back together cheaply.
