Ok, I noticed my seal/gasket that goes around/behind the oil plug has dry-rot, so I order a new one (Part# 826276). They send me two, so I'm thinking I have a spare. :whoo:

I need to change oil, so now would be a good time to replace this seal. The old seal comes out in a couple of pieces, and I place the new seal around the oil plug and stuff the seal under the lip like the old seal. This can be done for only 3/4 of the hole as the upper 1/4 is solid. In doing so the seal tears.

So before I try again, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on replacing this seal so I don't mess it up again. Just to make sure I install it correctly.

Help!

-Brian

I have attached a photo of the ripped seal 'installed'.

Your s/n comes up as:

MERCURY - ( 25 H.P. (1999 ))
Serial No: 0G765232 Model No: 1F25213VD

Parts list for model 1F25213VD:

25 (4-STROKE) - Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. Parts Lookup

If you look under DRIVESHAFT HOUSING in the parts list you will see item 8, seal which is P/N 826276, not 828276 as you identified in your first post. Is that just a typo?

Gerry

Service Manual you require is P/N: 90-854785R 1. If you do not have the manual, see my message to you in Notifications at the top of this page.

Gerry, I did mistype the part number. 826276 is correct.

Ok, with Gerry's help and some banging my head on the wall...I got it figured out. You need to take off the drive housing cover first, then install the seals, then put the housing cover back on which holds the seals in place. -Brian
