Acquired an 83 25 hp remote control motor with a 6 wire harness # 6249174. Some of the wires were disconnected, and I'm not sure where the black wire connects and does it relate to the on-off switch? Thought it connected to the lower small solenoid connection, but it will not crank without an additional ground to motor on that post. Thanks for any input on this wiring issue.

If the solenoid is of the 4 post (two small, 2 large) ones then a small jumper wire to the solenoid mounding bolt is needed, and the black wire to the control should be placed on the same post. If the solenoid only has 2 large and 1 small posts then the black wire needs to ground to the solenoid mounting bolt, or other location on the motor block for GRD to the controller. JMO

yes it is a 4 post, wanted to be sure about the jumper before I tried to start it. Thanks so much for the reply.
