Hi everyone! Last year I bought a new Mercury 6hp 4 stroke outboard. I am fortunate to live on a small lake and I get to use my motor almost daily. With that in mind, I would like to have some spare parts on hand in case I have any minor headaches. My small dealer stocks pretty much nothing for this motor. I'll certainly keep routine maintenance parts like spark plug, fuel filter, washers for lower unit oil plugs, prop cotter pins, water pump kit, factory service book. This is not my first outboard, so I am going by past experience and thinking possibly also a spare starter rope and carb gaskets/orings would be good to have on hand. Any other suggestions or maybe spares will not be necessary?
Also do people change the water pump as a matter of routine or wait for a decline in flow?
Thanks for any tips. -Nick
